FREE parking in Bromsgrove has been extended until early next year (January 4).
Bromsgrove District Council made the decision to scrap fees on all of its car parks for a longer period to encourage people to support businesses in the run up to Christmas and beyond.
Although Churchfields multi-storey will remain closed.
Council leader Karen May said: “I know that Christmas is one of Bromsgrove’s busiest times and while we don’t know what the new restrictions will mean for Bromsgrove after Dec 2, we want to encourage residents and visitors to come to our town.
“I know a lot of our businesses have been really creative and adapted to the new rules to enable their customers to buy their goods in a different way – whether this is online, by deliveries, via click and collect or through social distancing.
“Therefore we hope this free parking incentive will entice people to take advantage of these offers and shop local this Christmas.”
The move was welcomed by Liberal Democrat Coun Siobhan Robinson, who had put a motion in for next Wednesday’s full council meeting, calling for free parking to be extended throughout December.
She added it would support local businesses this Christmas after a difficult year for the High Street.
