Flipping good fun as Rubery and Rednal families celebrate Shrove Tuesday

YOUNGSTERS from Rubery and Rednal had fun yesterday taking part in pancake-related activities to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.

Families flocked to St Chad’s Church in Rubery where there were a variety of activities, including a quiz, Lent crafts and, of course, pancakes.

Rev Claire Turner, vicar of St Chad’s, said: “We had about 60 people in total and got through over 90 pancakes with a variety of toppings – from the usual lemon and sugar to fruit, cream, syrup and nuts.

“We also don’t think about hallelujah until Easter so the children had great fun colouring in a banner with the word on to hide it.

“We are now embarking on a journey as we countdown to the big celebration at Easter.”

Children from Play Days playgroup at St Stephen’s Church, Rednal, practised tossing pretend pancakes and had lots of fun trying to catch them once they were in the air.

Then at snack time they enjoyed eating pancakes, getting to choose from a variety of toppings.

Today is Ash Wednesday, the Christian holy day of prayer and the first day of Lent.
