A CAT used up one of its nine lives when it was rescued from a canal in Bromsgrove yesterday afternoon.

A crew from Bromsgrove Fire Station were called out at 4.45pm after reports to the control room about a cat ‘swimming’ in the waterway at Shaw Lane.

The owner was located and jumped into the canal to try and rescue the marooned moggy who by now had become trapped in a 10ft drainage hole.

The crew helped the owner out of the canal and then used a short extension ladder and rescue hook to pull the cat out.

A boat had also been put on standby but was needed.

Afterwards the owner posted on social media: “Thank you so much for all your help in rescuing Tigger.

“He had a good clean and a tin of tuna and has made a full recovery.

“One happy and very lucky cat thanks to you.

“We will be forever grateful.”
