EXPERTS have offered their advice and tips to parents whose children are starting school this week, writes Eve Watson.

Worcestershire County Council has put together an online resource for parents with support and help to make the transition easier.

Professionals say the first step is a positive attitude about the first day of school as it can help overcome nerves and worried before the big day arrives.

They also suggest that independence is a big part of children settling into school life and parents should help their children to develop these skills.

Activities such as feeding and dressing themselves, using cutlery and using the toilet alone can prepare children for their big leap.

Director of Children’s Services, Catherine Driscoll said: “Starting school is a huge milestone for all families.

“Making sure children are ready to join a class means they can get the most from their experience.

“It’s never too late to make simple changes and means that when they join their class children can have the very best start.”
