Event offers support for North Worcestershire women going through menopause

A BROMSGROVE woman and a nurse practitioner have organised an evening offering support and advice to ladies in the north Worcestershire area who may be going through the menopause.

Lisa Beard and Diane Porterfield, who is from Stourport and has her own business Bourne2care, came up with the idea for ‘Is It Just Me?’ after noticing there was little advice available for women at this stage of their lives.

Diane added: “Lisa and I spoke a few weeks ago about the need for more awareness about the signs of the menopause, how it effects people both physically and emotionally and the need for good advice for women and their families.

“It has been discussed recently on Good Morning Britain that 50 per cent of women they spoke to weren’t coping with the changes in their bodies but were also too embarrassed to talk about it.”

Lisa said: “We want it to be a very informal group where women can come along, learn about the menopause and have a chat.”

Diane will be discussing treatments based on latest research.

She added she hoped there would be a lot of discussion to raise awareness as well as practical advice and support.

The talk will begin at 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 24, and the venue at The Hunters Room at The Lodge, Lombard Street, Stourport-on-Severn, has been provided free of charge.

This free event, which will include refreshments, is being held in Stourport as a pilot.

It is hoped this event may inspire others to seek advice and future events could be brought to other parts of the county, including Bromsgrove and Redditch.
