Disabled swimmers in Bromsgrove urged to put themselves forward for competition

DISABLED swimmers are being urged to put themselves forward for a competition at Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre.

The gala, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on October 5, has been organised by former England Para Swimming Talent development coach Dave White from Swim Projects which provides young people with swimming opportunies.

Next month’s event is being run on behalf of the Bromsgrove Lions and in conjunction with the centre’s operators Everyone Active.

The inaugural one last year saw 16 swimmers of varying physical, visual and intellectual impairments take part.

There will be 25m swims in front crawl, breast stroke, back stroke and butterfly.

Weaker swimmers can have a helper swimmer alongside them.

There are medals for first, second and third place in each race and participants receive certificates for participating.

Lions Club support means there is no entry fee and swimmers can choose to enter however many races they want.

Dave has worked with several swimmers who represented GB in Rio, including Droitwich’s sliver medallist Rebecca Redfern.
