Deadline set for Bromsgrove drivers to claim on VW's 'diesel-gate' scandal

BROMSGROVE car owners affected by the Volkswagen ‘diesel-gate’ emissions scandal in 2015 have been given a deadline for when they can make a claim for compensation.

Anyone who wishes to make a claim against Volkswagen has until October 26 to do so after The High Court of Justice set the deadline.

So far seven people from Bromsgrove have made a claim but there is still believed to be 716 potential claimants in the area, with £6,086,426 to be claimed.

The ‘diesel-gate’ fraud was first revealed in September 2015 after Volkswagen was discovered to have installed illegal ‘defeat devices’ in its EA189 diesel engines.

The devices were fitted by Volkswagen to cheat the European emissions testing regime.

Volkswagen’s deceit led to over eight million vehicles being supplied to consumers across Europe which emitted Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) at levels up substantially higher than permitted by law.

‘Your Lawyers’, a law firm in the UK, say they want to hold Volkswagen accountable for its actions in the UK to the same extent as in the US where claimants have received a settlement of more than $15billion.

Aman Johal, Director of Your Lawyers said: ” I urge owners and former owners of affected vehicles to sign up.

“Volkswagen must be held to account for its reprehensible actions and we need as many people to join the action as possible in order increase the pressure upon Volkswagen to do the morally right thing and compensate owners and former owners.

“As a lawyer who has put my life and soul into fighting Volkswagen ever since news of the scandal first broke, I pledge that I and my firm will fight for as long as is required to achieve justice for English and Welsh consumers.”
