'Countdown' begins to this year's moon-landing themed Bromsgrove Beer and Cider Festival

THE COUNTDOWN has begun to this year’s Bromsgrove Beer and Cider Festival which the organisers hope will take off in style.

The logo for the 2019 will recognise Neil Armstrong’s historic moon landing which happened 50 years ago this July.

And in a giant leap for Bromsgrove an extra supping session has been added and the festival will be open to the general public from 6pm on Thursday, June 27. Previously the Thursday night was just for CAMRA members.

There will be 144 beers and more than 60 ciders and perries at the festival which runs at Bromsgrove Rugby Club from the Thursday to the Saturday, June 27 to 29.

The festival charity this year will be Severn Freewheelers which provides a life-saving service to the NHS by transporting urgently needed blood and medical requirements by motorcycle.

With the lunar landing theme and logo, Bromsgrove Astronomical Society will also be on-site during the festival providing star and moon-gazing information and advice.

The festival aims to encourage visitors to sample the range of different beer and cider styles available in pint, half and third measures.

The event will also host the CAMRA West Midlands Golden Ale competition.

Festival organiser David Wheeler said: “Volunteer members of Redditch and Bromsgrove branch of the Campaign for Real Ale who organise the event are looking forward to welcoming new and experienced beer and cider drinkers to our friendly festival.

“With food and entertainment it makes for a great day out.”

Admission is £10 which includes a deposit for a commemorative glass and £5 worth of beer/cider tokens.

Card-carrying CAMRA members receive additional tokens.

Licensees and those in the trade are invited to attend the festival on a special trade only session that includes two behind the scenes tours running at 3pm and 6pm.

Tickets are available from bromsgrovebeerfestival.org.uk/trade

Full opening hours are 2pm to 6pm Thursday (CAMRA members and trade only), 6pm to 11pm Thursday and Friday and 11am to 9.30pm on Saturday, June 29.
