A RUBERY resident has hit out at the state of New Road, the village’s main shopping street, calling on Bromsgrove District Council to do something about it.
The correspondence followed letters to The Standard on the demise of Bromsgrove High Street, with the writer pointing out that, while Bromsgrove has been subject to a regeneration project and brand new resurfacing, Rubery had ‘been left behind’.
He said: “Rubery is not a pleasant place to visit.
“It’s dull, faceless, stark and featureless.
“The colour of our paving is drab, in fact it’s black tarmac, that in areas has more potholes than the roads in the area, despite being reported on several occasions to the council.
“We have no fancy paving, vibrant or not, no novelty trees, whether shaped into squares or not, no raised walls which incorporate flower beds.”
And he pointed out that those living in the majority of Rubery, whose homes fell under Birmingham City Council’s jurisdiction, had benefited from footpath resurfacing, road resurfacing, the regeneration of Longbridge, the installation of new eco-friendly better street lighting and more.
But a Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson said: “Our main priority is Bromsgrove Town Centre and work is still ongoing there, however we are currently reviewing the economic priorities across the district and consideration will be given to other areas as part of that.”
