Charford Children's Centre saved from closure gets cash boost from councillor

A CHILDREN’S centre has been given a funding boost by a Worcestershire County Councillor after staff at Charford First school saved it from closure, writes Isabel Kimbrey.

The Charford Children’s Centre, formerly Sunnyfields, was at risk after the county council revealed it could no longer run it.

But then the first school’s headteacher Anita McLaren and her staff took on the project to ensure families did not lose their much-loved centre.

Coun Chris Bloore, who represents Bromsgrove South, praised the head and her team and then contributed £1,780 from his divisional fund so the centre could be redecorated to make it a bright and exciting place for people to enjoy.

Visitors to the centre can access a variety of children’s services which support expecting parents, new parents and playgroups and it is used for specialised learning programmes.

Coun Bloore said: “I’m so pleased that under the leadership of Anita and her team, the centre has not only been saved but it is thriving, with local groups and services remaining at the centre.

“I am so proud of the work they’re doing.”

For more details on how to hire the centre, call the Charford First School reception on 01527 873778.
