PUPILS from Catshill First School have been been highly commended after volunteering as tour guides at three of the Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust’s properties, writes Thomas Giles.
The group of 30 year four children undertook their roles during a visit to Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Hall’s Croft and New Place in Stratford-upon Avon as part of the Sharing Shakespeare’s Story project.
The youngsters trained as tour guides and were on hand to show members of the public around the properties, receiving high praise.
Staff from the Birthplace Trust were particularly impressed with the children’s confidence when delivering the information on the tour whilst one member of the public, a regular visitor to the properties, said the year four pupils were ‘as good as the year six guides she had met’.
Catshill First School’s assistant headteacher Adam Rivett said: “As ever, our children flourished in a new situation and accepted the challenge of speaking in front of strangers and working with staff from the Birthplace Trust.”
