A CAR, which is believed to have been set on fire, caused major damage to businesses in Rubery on Sunday 19 August.

West Mercia Police and the Fire Service were called out to the New Road incident after residents noticed the car was completely ablaze right outside Balti Hut.

Being so close, the car’s flames damaged the curry house and also a nail business next door.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at 8pm, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Rubery resident David Gibbs arrived at the scene after fire fighters had extinguished the fire.

He said: “It was completely shocking to see. It looked like someone had set fire to the car and left it there to burn.”

Officers believe there was two males in the area at the time of the incident and want them to come forward to help with the police investigation.

PC Pete Lowe, said: “We are conducting enquiries in order to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have seen something to come forward.

“Residents live above the shop premises and this could have posed a real threat to their safety.

“We will have an increased police presence in the area over the coming days to reassure the community.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 and quote reference 721s.
