PROTECTING the district’s green belt and ensuring it has the right development in the places where it is most needed are among the Bromsgrove Independent Group’s pledges ahead of May’s local elections.

The group, which has increased the number of candidates it is fielding, has also vowed to listen to what people want, invest in local communities through targeted spending and hold Worcestershire County Council to account over the district’s traffic problems.

Steve Colella, independent candidate for Hagley West, said members had innovative ways of increasing income and making the council more efficient.

“We are united in our views of how we can improve Bromsgrove as a whole whilst holding a strong independent voice for the people.”

The group said it would also employ more traffic wardens to tackle parking issues.

Sue Baxter, the Wythall Residents Association candidate for Drakes Cross, added: “The threat from over-development and the threat to our green belt from Birmingham hangs over us and if we don’t prepare ourselves to stand up to the West Midland Combined Authorities Bromsgrove willl be a annex to Birmingham.”

Barnt Green and Hopwood candidate Charlie Hotham claimed the independent group also had an alternative budget which could improve Bromsgrove’s medium-term financial position.
