Bromsgrove's young yachtsman making waves after passing RYA course at the age of five

A YOUNG yachtsman has been making waves after completing his RYA Level 1 certificate at the age of just five.

Max Morgan, who attends Bromsgrove Pre-Preparatory School has always spent time by the sea and on boats and this year expressed an interest in learning to sail.

Many local sailing clubs do not accept Level 1 learners until they are eight years old so his parents contacted Abersoch Sailing School in North Wales.

Their philosophy was that if someone had an urge to learn then it was best to encourage them, so they accepted him on the Royal Yachting Association Level 1 course.

Unfazed by the sea, Max was happy to sail solo whilst learning the basic skills needed to steer and control the boat.

Max is keen to continue his sailing and plans to complete his RYA Level 2 next Easter when he has gained more strength.

When he is not in Abersoch on the sea, he would like to practise on local lakes if he can get permission.

His dad Mr Morgan said: “We are so proud Max has achieved this at such a young age and we love how much he likes being on the water.

“Sailing and boating are activities loved by his family.”
