OLYMPIC silver-medallist Tom Mitchell will officially open Bromsgrove’s new Aldi Food Store on Thursday, August 9.

The Team GB rugby sevens star, who won the medal in Rio 2016 and took bronze with England in this year’s Commonwealth Games, will officially cut the ribbon at 8am.

The first 30 shoppers through the door will get a complimentary bag full of fresh fruit and vegetables from the Super 6 range as part of the supermarket’s Get Set to Eat Fresh scheme to encourage the nation to eat fresh British produce.

Tom said: “I’m looking forward to my morning at Aldi Bromsgrove, it’s a great feeling to give back to the community and help inspire customers to get cooking with fresh produce and get active with the kids.”

Store manager Gary Griffiths said it was great to have Tom to ‘kick off the celebrations’.

The Birmingham Road store has brought 30 new jobs to the town which have been filled by local people.

It will be open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
