Bromsgrove's Lailah and Sophie take on 100km walk in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore

TWO FRIENDS from Bromsgrove’s Parkside Middle School have risen to a challenge to remember Sir Captain Tom Moore and walked 100km over half-term for charity.

All the year sevens at the school were tasked with celebrating the centenarian’s life by doing 100 of something.

Lailah Steptoe, 12, and Sophie Allington, 11, searched for a suitable charity and found SOS Africa.

The UK-based organisation supports and sponsors disadvantaged children in South Africa.

The girls started off with 6km on day one and built up and on Tuesday they completed their walk.

Lailah’s proud mum Sarah Mole said: “I think it’s amazing what they’ve achieved – they have struggled and it has been painful with sore feet and blisters but they kept going.

“Their determination was inspiring.”

So far Lailah and Sophie have raised £426 and anyone wanting to boost their coffers further can visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/trekking-for-tom to donate.
