A BROMSGROVE businessman has become the first in Worcestershire to win the county council’s Plastic Pledge certificate, writes Yixuan Wu.

Andy Taylor runs GreenApe which hires its pedal-powered smoothie bike to organisers of various local events.

Andy can use up to 4,000 cups every summer with his smoothie bike so his business not using plastic will make a real difference.

Andy added: “I’m really proud to be the first recipient of a Plastic Pledge certificate.

“I’m always trying to do my bit to help look after the environment.

“There may be a small additional cost to business but it’s very easy to reduce the amount of single use plastic we all use.”

The Plastic Pledge scheme was introduced to recognise local business and people within their local communities who have committed to reducing their single use plastics.

Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for the environment, Coun Tony Miller, said: the certificates provided a real opportunity to celebrate the commitment of business and communities reducing the amount of single use plastics.

“It’s also a chance to personally thank those who are reducing their plastic usage every day.”
