THE FOUNDER of Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful Sarah Milburn has praised people across the district for the way they have got behind the Great British Spring Clean campaign.

Although the month-long drive is only a week old, there have already been 32 clean-up activities, 81 people involved, 17 hours of tidying up completed, 91 bags of litter collected and 14 road name signs cleaned.

The KBB Facebook page has also soared to 485 members and, according to the group, has never been busier.

Sarah said: “I put up the challenge that I wanted to try and get one clean-up activity a day during the Spring Clean month, and the response has been phenomenal – so far there have been more like four or five things going on each day, and those are only the ones that we hear about.

“We know there are plenty of unsung #LitterHeroes out there doing their bit too.

“The residents of Bromsgrove have totally embraced the community spirit of litter-picking.”

The Oakalls and Parklands clean on Saturday had its biggest ever turn-out since the event was started three years ago with 30 people collecting 23 bags of litter.

And there have been other groups holding their own events as well.

Sarah added: “What has been so wonderful for me is to see the positivity out there, and the sense of community pride.

“My hope was for the KBB group to grow so that each area can start to work almost independently, supported by the group but organising themselves, and we are starting to get there now.

“I’ve also made so many new links and contacts within the wider community, so my vision of us all joining the dots and community groups working together to support each other is definitely beginning.”

Sarah has kept up her own personal challenge, cleaning one road name sign each day – nominated by Bromsgrove residents – and other people have got in touch to say they have also given signs a clean.

The Great British Spring Clean runs until April 23.
