TWO members of Bromsgrove Speakers Club had success in the West Midlands Area Competition held in Stourbridge on Monday (February 6).
Peter Worthington won the ‘Topics’ contest and Luke Evans finished first in the ‘Speech’ section at the event which featured the Bromsgrove, Stourbridge and Sutton Coldfield clubs.
All three are members of the National Association of Speakers Clubs and it was the organisation’s president elect Eric Baker who presented the trophies on the evening.
Peter said: “I was gobsmacked to win, especially against such brilliant contestants.”
Peter only started going along to the Bromsgrove Speakers’ Club in July last year.
“I’ve improved so much since I joined my local speakers club, and would strongly recommend it.”
The next meeting of the Bromsgrove Speakers’ Club takes place at 8pm on Tuesday (February 14) at The Barn at The Bell in Belbroughton. The club meets every other Tuesday there.
Members and visitors should meet at 7.45pm for the get-together and the theme for the speeches will be ‘Special Occasions’.
The meetings usually last until 10pm.
The club is aimed at helping people improve their public speaking, leadership and presentation techniques.
Each speech on the evening is between two and three minutes long and is evaluated afterwards by proper recognised evaluating techniques so speakers can ascertain what they did well and what they could do to improve.
Everyone is welcome to the meeting on Tuesday but those going along should register on the website first or call Peter to let organisers know they are coming.
