Bromsgrove School pupils hold music sessions for the elderly

Bromsgrove Editorial 2nd Nov, 2019   0

BROMSGROVE School pupils have been running ‘Music for the Residents’ sessions as part of the school’s service activity.

The school has an extensive service programme on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week and recently pupils visited Gilbert Court Sheltered Housing in Charford.

Bromsgrove Alliance Councillor Michael Thompson, who is the director of the International Baccalaureate at Bromsgrove School, formed and runs the activity.

Every week pupils from the school visit residential homes and provide musical entertainment.

This varies from folk or classical pieces to popular ballads from the 1950s.

Residents are always encouraged to join in.

Coun Thompson said: “Music is a big part of everybody’s life – it lifts our spirits and helps recall precious memories.

“For some Alzheimer’s patients the words of a song from the past remains clear, when much else is forgotten.”
