THE STEM cell search for Belbroughton boy Finn Hill who has blood cancer will continue at the annual Bromsgrove Police and Fire Service Open Day this Saturday, August 31, writes Eve Watson.
Visitors can join the stem cell register by providing a mouth swab and could be a match for the seven-year-old.
Crew Commander ‘Chuck’ Berry from Bromsgrove fire station said: “We heard about Finn through the ambulance service and they will be taking the lead on the day.”
Finn was diagnosed with HLH in March after being poorly off and on since 2016.
People who have HLH have ‘T’ and ‘NK’ immune system cells which do not work properly and become overactive – they attack the body causing too much inflammation.
Bromsgrove Police safer neighbourhood officer, Barney Kelso, said: “This year we are really keen to get as many people to come and support the day with all of the local emergency services, ‘Fin the Fabulous’ and his family.
“We would love to see a large number of people providing a simple mouth swab on the day to help Finn find a possible donor match.”
People can be tested on the day and find out more about Finn and the treatment he needs
There will be a host of activities from midday to 4pm at the police and fire station, including chip pan fire, road crash and Young Firefighters demonstrations.
Visitors can meet firefighters and police officers, including armed response, and check out their vehicles.
Crime prevention and fire safety advice will also be available and there will be the chance to go in the ‘smoke house’ and more.
