AN ELDERLY resident had cash stolen during a distraction burglary in Charford on Wednesday at 2pm.

The incident happened in Bishop Hall Crescent when a man pretending to be from the ‘water board’ entered the home and took the money.

It was the second distraction burglary in as many days.

On Tuesday two men called at an elderly man’s home on Old Birmingham Road and then while one diverted his attention the other one sneaked in and stole cash.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

People, particularly the elderly and vulnerable, are being urged to take care when answering the door to unexpected callers.

Anyone unsure about a caller should use a door chain and then check the callers’ identity and their background by calling a number in a directory, rather than one given to them by the caller.

Genuine callers will not object to waiting while the details are checked.

People concerned about a caller at their door should call police on 101.
