A VIRTUAL concert was performed by talented pianist Matthew Doidge to pay tribute to the nursing home staff who have been looking after his granddad.

Matthew Doidge, who is 20 and from Catshill in Bromsgrove, recorded the programme of nostalgic songs for employees at Redditch’s Stonebridge home, where Alan Brown has been for the past 12 months.

The concert coincided with Alan’s 80th birthday,

Matthew said: “Me and my family have not seen my granddad since the lockdown began but we know he is loved and well cared for by all of the staff at Stonebridge.

“He and the other residents love listening to music and this was an opportunity for me to show my thanks and gratitude for the team who have done such a fantastic job over these tough few months, like everybody in the care sector has – up and down the country.”

His set included classic and singalong songs spanning the 1930s, 40s and 50s with Elvis Presley, Doris Day and Vera Lynn numbers among the selection.

He uploaded the video to YouTube and is hoping other care homes in the area will screen it to their residents.
