County placed in tier two of enhanced Covid crackdown measures

WORCESTERSHIRE has been placed in tier two of the Government’s revised Coronavirus restrictions as lockdown reaches its conclusion.

From Wednesday (December 2) when lockdown ends, the county will be placed into the ‘high alert’ category until at least December 16 when the tiers will be reviewed once more.

The allocation means the county is considered an area with a higher or rapidly rising level of  infections. Neighbouring Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull has been placed into tier three, meaning lockdown will only be partially lifted over the border.

Under tier two, county residents are asked not to socialise with anyone they do not live with apart from those in their support bubble indoors whether at home or in a public place.

Gatherings of more than six people outside are banned as the ‘Rule of Six’ makes a return post lockdown while businesses can reopen, albeit in the Covid secure way many operated before the country was locked down on November 5.

Pubs and bars must remain closed unless they are operating as restaurants and serving food. The Government has again warned alcohol can only be served with ‘substantial meals’.

Those businesses selling food or drink for consumption on the premises are required to provide table service only, close between 11pm and 5am.

The controversial 10pm curfew has been scrapped with businesses allowed to stay open until 11pm but last orders will now be at 10pm.

In boost for outdoor events and sport in the county, public attendance is now permitted at either 50 per cent of the venue’s capacity or 2,000 people outdoors or 1,000 people indoors, whatever is lower at each venue.

Sports clubs have been handed a boost as spectators can now return, again at whatever is lower from either 50 per cent of the venue’s capacity or either 2,000 people outdoors or 1,000 people indoors.

Churches and places of worship remain open but visitors must not socialise with people from outside of their household or support bubble while they are indoors there, unless a legal exemption applies

Weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on numbers of attendees – 15 people can attend wedding ceremonies and receptions, 30 people can attend funeral ceremonies, and 15 people can attend linked commemorative events such as wakes or stonesettings.

Travel to venues is permitted but residents have been asked to reduce the number of journeys they make where possible.

Anyone travelling from the county to a tier one area is asked to follow the rules for tier two in the area while travel to or overnight stays in tier three areas should be avoided other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities.
