THUNDERSTORMS and heavy rain wreaked havoc across Bromsgrove District on Tuesday evening and night, bringing nightmare conditions for drivers.

A deluge of heavy rain in just a few hours caused waters to rise, prompting a warning from the police for motorists to take care on the roads.

Officers said underneath floodwater there was often hidden dangers and urged motorists to use alternative routes.

There were posts on social media about drivers becoming stranded and needing assistance.

Among the areas affected were the main A38 near the town’s Morrisons which is always prone to flooding, Worcester Road, near Bromsgrove School, The Strand and the bottom end of the High Street where it meets Worcester Road.
