Bromsgrove District Council apologises after warm clothing left in the High Street for homeless people was taken by street cleaner

BROMSGROVE District Council has been forced to apologise to the organisers of a drive to help the homeless after warm clothing items hung on lamp posts, trees and street furniture on Sunday night were taken by a street cleaner by mistake on Monday.

The revelation was made on Spotted Bromsgrove after people joined I Am Not Lost – Bromsgrove campaigners on the High Street to donate hats, gloves, scarves, coats and sleeping bags.

Corinna, who co-ordinated the event on Sunday, said she was bemused by what had happened and had contacted the district council to ask why it had happened.

“Before the event, I informed Bromsgrove Council that we would remove any remaining items after a few days, that would be given to Bromsgrove community.

“It’s a shame after all the donations and volunteers work from Bromsgrove.”

A district council spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise as our employee did not know that the clothing was part of this wonderful campaign which this council has been vocal in supporting.

“While not ideal it was purely accidental and we have further raised awareness of this campaign with all of our Place Team to ensure this does not happen again.

“Once again we would like to say sorry and we will continue to support this initiative.”

The council confirmed the items were not retrievable.
