Bromsgrove couple Sally and Kevin tie the knot and have reception at Rubery sandwich van

A BROMSGROVE couple had a white wedding with a difference when they held the reception at a popular Rubery sandwich van in the snow.

Sally Whitehouse and Kevin Robinson, who had to cancel their special day because of the Covid pandemic, tied the knot at the Bromsgrove registry office at Parkside.

They then headed to Nick’s Sandwich Bar in the layby on the A38 between Rubery and the M5 for the ‘wedding breakfast’ and reception.

The pair met 20 years ago on a blind date and after getting engaged, Sally had the wedding planned by last Christmas day.

But with cancellations due to Covid and the Tier system restrictions the couple decided to keep it simple with just six people at the ceremony and reception.

Among them were their children and Sally’s sister.

The pair were interviewed on BBC Hereford and Worcestershire where Sally said: “It was fantastic – it was even much better than if we had planned it.

“We enjoyed every minute of the day.”

Nick Husband, who owns the Sandwich Bar, said: “When they asked me I was a bit shocked at first, then I thought it was a great idea – I even bought them a bottle of Moët for them to celebrate with.”

Sally and Kevin now plan to have a bigger party for family and friends later in the year, when restrictions allow.
