Bromsgrove choir raises over £1000 for Worcestershire Breast Unit

A BROMSGROVE choir has raised hundreds of pounds as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donning their best pink attire.
Got 2 Sing Bromsgrove held their ‘Pink it up’ evening where they wore anything from pink wigs to tutus for donations to the cause.
The evening raised £240 to add to the Got 2 Sing’s grand total of more than £1,000 which will go to the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven which opened in February and has state of the art equipment, including new digital mammogram and ultrasound machines.
Choir founder Beth Dunn, commented, “Breast cancer awareness means a great deal to us at Got 2 Sing.
“We have heard many personal stories from members about their experience of breast cancer and how joining a choir and singing has brightened up many a dark day and certainly lifted their spirits.
“So it was important that we honoured national Breast Cancer Awareness Month in whatever way we could.”

Experiences

As part of the choir’s campaign they shared their own experiences of breast cancer on social media in order to raise more awareness and in the hope they may help others going through the same.

Several of the choir’s members joined a ‘Sing Yourself Happy’ event on Tuesday (October 25) when breast cancer patients, past and present were taught warm up techniques and some basic vocal harmonies.
Lexi Craigie, Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven’s fundraising manager, said: “We’ve heard a number of stories from patients explaining how singing and becoming part of a choir has really helped them on their road to recovery.”
The choir is planning to continue to support the unit at their 2017 Symphony Hall Concert.
