Bromsgrove choir Got 2 Sing to celebrate International Friendship Day with launch to find new members

A BROMSGROVE choir will celebrate International Friendship Day by launching a summer campaign to take on new members, writes Mia Townsend.

Starting Monday, August 6, Got 2 Sing choir leader Cathy Hart will be illustrating how the local community that singing can create social inclusion and belonging.

The Office of National Statistics reported that five per cent of adults ‘often feel lonely’ and joining a choir has been proven to combat this by motivating people to attend rehearsals regularly, increasing both physical activity and social support.

Cathy said the choir wanted to reach out to people and show singing can have a positive impact and she hoped this summer campaign would help.

Members are trained in performance skills, vocal technique and harmony – the group often sings popular songs with three-part harmonies.

There are no auditions or requirements, as well as no obligations or fees to join.

The group meets on Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 9pm at St John’s C of E Middle School Academy, Watt Close.

The next sessions run for three weeks from Monday and start again in the new September term.

Cathy added: “I’m really excited about getting people singing this summer and seeing lots of new friends made in the process.”

Those joining in September will have the opportunity to sing at Birmingham Symphony Hall in the choir’s 2019 concert.
