A BROMSGROVE beauty therapist who is competing for the 2017/18 Miss Worcestershire crown says her dream is to have her own charity helping the homeless.

Amy Jones, of Central Road, is taking part in the annual charity contest when it comes to Bromsgrove’s Holiday Inn for the first time on November 12.

The former South Bromsgrove High School student took home the title of ‘Miss Intellect Birmingham 2017’ earlier this year when she reached the Miss Birmingham finals.

As part of the preparation for the Miss Worcestershire 2017/18 competition, Amy is raising funds for the pageant’s charity Beauty with a Purpose, as well as the charity of her choice, the Basement Project in Bromsgrove.

Along with the other finalists, she is also creating an outfit made from recycled materials.

She said: “Many people see pageants as quite negative but I want to show people it’s not like that.

“Miss Worcestershire is very charity based and they do amazing work. It’s not just about being pretty and wearing a crown.”

The 21-year-old took part in a sleep-out last year where she spent the night outside to raise money for Crisis.

“Homelessness is a huge problem in Birmingham and in other areas across the UK.

“It is a cause I’m very passionate about.

“Now I have started, I really want to go to Miss England, it will give me lots of opportunities and the platform start my own charity and help others.

“I would love to get everyone in Bromsgrove behind me and hopefully be the first Bromsgrove girl to win Miss England.”
