Breme Residential Care Home's residents cook up a storm during bake-off competition

THERE was plenty of stirring, whisking and icing during National Baking Week as Sanctuary Care residents in Bromsgrove cooked up a storm.

Residents at Breme Residential Care Home took inspiration from the Great British Bake Off as they held their own ‘cake bake’.

They competed against each other for the title of ‘Star Baker’ which was awarded for the most delicious and best decorated cake.

For many of the residents it brought back memories of when they used to bake for their families.

Resident Flo Morris, 94, said: “The cakes were lovely.

“I think old-fashioned recipes have always been the best and that’s what we did.”

National Baking Week, which ran between October 15 and 21, aimed to ‘get Britain baking again’.

It also promoted the idea that baking can bring many benefits for mental well-being.

It’s known that as well as being the perfect reminiscence activity, baking also encourages movement and brings people together.
