THE SIXTH Bromsgrove (Catshill) troop became the first scouts to spend a night in the Birmingham City Centre ‘Lockup’, writes Annie Lucas.

The Steelhouse Lane building, a police station between 1891 and 2016, has been used for TV programmes, is a popular destination for ghost hunters and is now being converted into a museum.

Catshill Scouts and Cubs Scouts leader Mel said: “Steelhouse Lane housed many of the original gang members of the infamous Peaky Blinders as well as other high profile murderers.”

The scouts group will be attending ‘ShireJam’ camp in July which annually attracts around 4,000 participants.

Bromsgrove Scout groups are recruiting new volunteers who will be given free training to become Scout leaders and supporting members.
