A GIRL from Belbroughton C of E Primary School has proved she has the ‘write stuff’, making it through to the final of BBC Radio 2’s 500 words literary competition.

Esme Harrsion-Jones, ten, is through to the last 50 with her story ‘Why did the Chicken?’ which she wrote in school.

She will now travel to Windsor Castle on June 14 when the event will be broadcast live on Zoe Ball’s Breakfast Show.

Last year there were almost 135,000 entries to the popular contest.

Esme said: “I am a bit nervous as it is such a big event but I am so excited and really grateful to have the opportunity to take part.”

Clare Bishop, Belbroughton Primary’s headteacher, said: “We are so very proud of Esme.

“We know she is a wonderful writer but this is a fantastic chance for her to show off her amazing ideas.

“We will all be listening to the final and rooting for her to win.”
