MASKED robbers burst into a shop in Belbroughton armed with an axe before fleeing with cash, cigarettes and scratchcards.

It happened at McColls on High Street at 6.40am this morning when two men – who entered with their faces covered and wearing gloves – threatened staff.

There were no reported injuries but staff were extremely shaken.

Det Con Sonya Gibbs said: “Thankfully, nobody was hurt but this was an understandably frightening incident and officers are supporting those involved.

“We have launched a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and a number of enquiries are currently ongoing.”

One of the men was stocky and wore a distinctive dark jacket with reflective stripes on the sleeves with white trainers which had a very noticeable luminous green heel.

Police want anyone with any information, no matter how small, to get in touch by calling 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Officers have also appealed to anyone who has dashcam footage of the area at the time.
