A BANDLADESHI restaurant in Belbroughton has fought off hundreds of other eateries to take a prestigious regional crown.

Five Spice has been named the winner in the West Midlands section of The Bangladesh Caterers Association’s (BCA) Restaurant of the Year Awards 2019.

The winners were judged on their innovation, ambience, presentation of food, hygiene standards and customer service.

Mohammed Miah, manager of Five Spice, said: “This award means a lot to us, it recognises the great food we serve and the contribution we are making to this industry.

“We have worked hard to win this recognition and now we want people to come and experience our food and restaurant.”

The BCA Awards were held at the Park Plaza Hotel Westminster.

The theme for this year’s awards was ‘BCA – The Home of Great British Curry’.

The awards are now in their 14th year and the night in London – known as ‘the Oscar night of the curry industry’ – was full of glamour and entertainment.

There were an array of high profile guests at the event which was co-hosted by Tasmin Lucia Khan, a British film producer, TV news anchor and the face of BBC Three News and Alexis Conran, radio presenter, actor and Celebrity Master Chef winner in 2016.

On the night, the BCA’s new National Executive Council were present – president Mr Munim, secretary general Mitu Choudhury and chief treasurer Saidur Rahman Bipul.

The BCA represents over 12,000 UK curry houses and takeaways and the industry contributes £4.2billion to the economy, creating thousands of jobs.
