GLASSES will be raised to toast the fruit trees in Avoncroft Museum’s orchard next Sunday, January 5, when the annual Twelfth Night wassail is held.
The traditional event will feature live entertainment from theatrical Mummers, warm cider, children’s crafts and trail and a traditional blessing of the trees ceremony.
There will also be some traditional Twelfth Night food cooked and more.
A wassail, meaning ‘good health’, is a traditional ceremony to toast the trees, stave off evil spirits and encourage a bumper crop of apples for the coming harvest.
