THE WORCESTERSHIRE Skills Show proves enjoyed double last year’s attendance with 6,000 people heading to the event at the Chateau Impney in Droitwich, writes Caprice Harrison.

The county’s largest careers event boasted 119 exhibitors and there were 46 schools and colleges in attendance.

The show was aimed at showcasing to young people what employment and training opportunities were available throughout Worcestershire.

Coun Marcus Hart, the county council’s cabinet member with responsibility for education and skills said: “I’m delighted the skills show has proved to be a real success story for the county.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase what our county has to offer as well as offering advice and support for people on their chosen career path.”

Students were able to try out a variety of practical and ‘have a go’ tasks and activities to demonstrate varying roles in a range of industries.

Agility Group was one of the many companies which attended.

The firm’s office manager Sarah James said: “It was a great opportunity for young people to see various career options.

“We had interactive quizzes, health and safety word-searches and spotting hazards in a science lab – they could then

apply this information to their classrooms, homes and future workplaces.

“The children were really enthusiastic and asked lots of questions.”

The event also provided the perfect opportunity for people to find out directly from employers what skills and qualifications they looked for in applicants.

Apprenticeships, higher education pathways, university options, STEM careers and employability skills were just some of the options showcased to the county’s young people and their parents.
