THE WONDERFUL waterways will be celebrated in Alvechurch on Saturday, April 13, when an event is held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Worcester to Birmingham and Droitwich Canals Society.

There will be canal boat trips, live music, birds of prey from GCB Falconry, model boats, poetry, food, drink and more at The Crown, Withybed Green from midday to 5pm.

The society was launched in 1969 following a meeting at The Crown.

Society spokesperson Tony Brannon said: “We’ve received lots of positive feedback and hopefully the weather will be kind to us.

“We are also setting up a sound system and looking to do some live interviewing with local people and those involved with the society.”

Anyone who wants to go along, sing a few songs, play some instruments, tell some anecdotes or do anything else to entertain should call John Hemmingway on 07887 555584.
