Fairfield WI ready to hold its annual Christmas Party

Bromsgrove Editorial 11th Dec, 2018   0

MEMBERS of Fairfield WI will meet for their annual Christmas Party at the Village Hall at 7pm tomorrow evening.

This year’s event will be a cheese and wine party and there will be charity Christmas cards instead of individual ones.

This year’s selection will go towards the Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The competition is a Handmade Christmas Tree Decoration.

There will also be Secret Santa with the present to be in a Christmas bag and no more than £5 in value.

It has been a busy month for the group with members attending St Mark’s Christmas Fayre at the Village Hall on December 1, where they had a cake stall.

And there was the Worcestershire Federation of Women’s Institutes in Worcester on December 9.

At the last meeting in November Carol welcomed everyone, Jerusalem was sung and apologies given.

Carol also welcomed back June who hasn’t managed to come to meetings for some time, it was lovely to see her again.

Maggie read out next year’s programme of speakers. It seems to be a very varied selection and members agreed it promised to be good.

Carol gave her report on the Annual Council Meeting held in Malvern. She said the room was amazing and it was a very enjoyable day with lunch provided. Erin Boag spoke about her dancing career with Anton du Beke . She danced on Strictly from 2004 – 2014. She was extremely entertaining and a good speaker.

The speaker for November’s evening was Catherine Clark on ‘My Life with Hats’. She runs Blakedown Hat Hire from her home.

Catherine brought a beautiful array of hats with her and proceeded to put them all on and show members how they should be worn.

Ninety per cent of these hats suited her really well and she looked fabulous.

Catherine also had bags to match the hats and brought along some old hats showing how styles have changed over the years.

Members agreed there were a ‘few Nora Batty ones’ among them.

The brilliant talk was very much enjoyed. Shirley gave the vote of thanks.

The Competition of ‘Your favourite hat’ was won by Maggie with Debbie finishing second and Meriel third.

Fairfield WI would like to everybody a very Happy Christmas and healthy and peaceful New Year.
