DOG OWNERS are being encouraged to lead by example and scoop their poop.
It comes after the launch of two pick up poop campaigns which focus on highlighting the worst hot spot areas in Bromsgrove district and South Birmingham.
The Blue Cross has invited owners to rate their favourite parks for cleanliness and to name and shame the worst areas they have visited with their four-legged friends.
Residents from across the district are also being urged by Bromsgrove District Council to identify hot spots as a part of their 2014 Mucky Pup campaign.
The council said once sites had been identified they would be given a deep clean and would then be strictly monitored by officers and have additional Mucky Pup signs placed in and around them. The scheme went live on Tuesday (July 1).
According to a survey conducted by the Blue Cross by not picking up their dog's mess and having an unruly dog, they would become a massive turn off.
The research revealed how over half of pet owners in the Midlands had met new friends and even partners through walking their dogs.
But, almost half said they were worried about unruly and out-of-control pooches while in their local parks and green spaces.
The animal charity has now come up with five pledges to help dog owners and their pets become more attractive.
The pledges include to always bag and bin their pooch's poop, to make sure their hound was always a joy and never a nuisance, to ensure their dog was safe around others, to always know where their dog was and to teach their dog to come when it was called.
TV presenter Ben Fogle, who is backing the Blue Cross campaign, said: "Walking your dog is a wonderful way to meet people.
"I should know, I met my wife while walking my dog Inca.
"Keeping parks and green spaces enjoyable for everyone is just one of the reasons I'll be signing the Blue Cross pledge.
"Sign up now and make all our parks places we can all be proud of."
