A SCHOOLGIRL was approached by a stranger as she waited for a coach in Barnt Green at about 8.25am yesterday morning (Wednesday).

The man was seen walking up to the child who attends Alvechurch C of E Middle School and tried to start a conversation with her.

A member of the public who thought he was acting suspiciously intervened before the the man walked off and the police were called.

A spokeswoman from West Mercia Police said a number of officers searched the area and a man fitting the description was arrested nearby after being spotted by a PCSO.

He is currently at Kidderminster Police Station helping detectives with their enquiries.

Schools in the area have since sent out letters to parents informing them of the incident and have encouraged them to re-iterate to their children the importance of being safe. An assembly on the issue was also held at Alvechurch Middle School.
