A COUPLE who launched Bromsgrove Operatic Society and are currently preparing for the group’s production of Crazy For You, took time out of rehearsals to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
George and Anne Brooks met at Bromsgrove Methodist Church in 1960 and married four years later.
To mark their special day, members of the society presented them with flowers at a rehearsal for the Gershwin musical which runs at Artrix from Tuesday (June 17) to Saturday (June 21).
The pair were founding members of the theatre company in 1981 and have not missed a show since, including the newest production.
Society chair Ian Cox said the special couple had, along with a group of friends, provided Bromsgrove residents with a valuable and necessary asset when they launched the group more than 30 years ago.
“We wouldn’t be where we are now without them and we thank them both for their hard work and dedication over the years, as well as congratulate them on reaching their golden wedding anniversary,” he added.
George has had a long run of principal roles and will play Everett Baker and Anne is also heavily involved in the amateur company, where she is the secretary.
Anne has previously acted as chair and vice-chair of the group and also regularly performs on stage.
They are both looking forward to the forthcoming production, a lively musical which is set in the American West during the 1930s.
