Sainsbury's 'still bringing Bromsgrove superstore as well as local'

SAINSBURY’S has confirmed to The Standard that the superstore planned for the Birmingham Road will still go ahead, despite the company submitting an application for one of their Local stores a couple of miles away.

We revealed last week that there were plans to convert the former Lime Bar and Thai Brasserie, on Stourbridge Road into a smaller Sainsbury’s.

After that piece went in, we were contacted by residents who asked what impact that would have on the plans for the bigger store which is scheduled to be built where the Co-op is now.

But a spokesman for Sainsbury’s told us: “We remain committed to developing a store in Bromsgrove, though at the moment don’t have a date in our development schedule for work to start.

“We have agreed a lease with the Co-op, with appropriate break clauses, that will allow us to move ahead with the scheme as soon as we are able to do so,” he added.
