BROMSGROVE'S Blue Cross is on the brink of a kitten crisis with the charity having taken on double the number of unwanted or homeless young cats, compared to the same figures last year.

And, worse than that, there is even more waiting to be admitted to the centre in Wildmoor Lane, Catshill.

So far, between January 1 and May 12, the Bromsgrove Blue Cross has taken in 26 kittens - last year it was 13 during that time.

Nationwide the Blue Cross has seen five coming through its doors everyday.

Neil Edwards, the Bromsgrove Blue Cross centre manager, said: "Every year we see a rise in the number of unwanted kittens needing a new home.

"It is shocking that we have already admitted twice the number of unwanted kittens this year.

"Sadly, we expect we will be needed to help even more in the weeks and months to come."

There are currently seven homeless kittens at the Bromsgrove Blue Cross and many of those admitted so far were abandoned or strays. New homes will be found for them as soon as they are old enough.

"It is heartbreaking to think that some of these little kittens were left all alone to fend for themselves.

"It is a miracle some of them survived without their mum, or any food and water.

"We are so grateful for our brilliant team of foster carers who are helping us care for them all," added Mr Edwards.

And he concluded by urging all cat owners to make sure their pets were neutered to stop the rise in unwanted kittens.

Anyone who can offer a kitten a home can visit www.bluecross.org.uk or call 0300 777 1460.
