RESIDENTS have just six weeks to have their say on proposals to move Catshill Post Office to the Spar in Golden Cross Lane.
As part of a new concept for branches, Post Office bosses say the new branch will be open-plan and boast extended opening hours.
If the plan goes ahead, the new location will be 540 metres away from the current site in Meadows Road. Opening hours would be between 8am and 10pm from Monday to Saturday and between 9am and 10pm every Sunday - 51 more hours than is currently offered.
The move is part of a major modernisation programme being undertaken by the Post Office.
The organisation's regional network manager Julia Marwood said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Bromsgrove and we are confident this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
During the public consultation, which closes on June 26, customers are urged to highlight issues they would like to be considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal.
The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, has 11,500 branches.
The Government has committed £1.34billion for the Post Office network to make sure there is no programme of Post Office closures.
In November, to update branches, the Government announced a further £640million investment in the Post Office network, from 2015 to 2018.
