A BROMSGROVE scout is one of the lucky ones to be chosen to go to the International World Jamboree of Scouting which will take place in Japan next August.

Harry Belton, 14, will be one of 3,000 from the UK and just one from the district going to the event which only happens every four years.

And he said he was stunned when he received the letter.

"I was completely overwhelmed when I heard I had been selected.

"It is the opportunity of a lifetime.

"I am very fortunate and proud to be representing the young people of this district at such an amazing event," he added.

The World Jamboree is aimed at widening the participants' cultural knowledge, establishing overseas friendships and to promote scouting to the wider community.

Those going on the trip, which will cost Harry £3,000, will spend two weeks camping in Yamaguchi and the rest with a Japanese host family.

A grant of £500 has been donated by the Bromsgrove Scouting District and Harry is now busy organising fund-raising events in a bid to collect the cash.

"Any support, however large or small would be appreciated," added Harry.
