A NEW venue will open its doors in Charford on Friday (April 25) with a special Easter Fun Day from 11am.
The Starlight Cafe and Community Centre, being run by Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht), will be based in the former TRUNK building on Humphrey Avenue.
The building provided a place for people to access computers, employment advice and general support and was a great loss to the community when it closed.
Marie Green, bdht’s director of communities, said she was delighted the trust was taking over the centre and cafe to provide those important services again and a place for people to meet locally.
There will also be IT classes at the Starlight Community Centre, along with a craft club on Wednesday afternoons, social sessions for adults with learning difficulties on Thursday afternoons and Citizen’s Advice Bureau advisors on hand on Monday and Tuesday mornings from the middle of May. They will offer free, confidential advice.
“We hope the classes and sessions will be popular and the centre can thrive,” added Ms Green.
She also urged other organisations to get in touch if they would like to offer services or run courses from the community centre.
The running of the venue depends on volunteers and anyone wanting to help in the cafe or centre should call Darran on 01527 833886.
During today’s Fun Day, there will be an Easter egg hunt, games, a prize raffle, a name the giant duck competition and colouring and crafts for children to take part in.
Those who go along will also be able to see the new centre and what it has to offer.
