MORE than 30 volunteers have joined forces to give Hopwood a spring clean.

Residents from Lea End Lane and one from Lower Hopwood took the action after becoming fed up of seeing litter strewn in the area which spoiled the appearance of country roads and small lanes.

It was organised by Tim Parsons and Bromsgrove District Council provided the litter-picking equipment and took away 48 industrial bags of rubbish at the end.

Of the volunteers, 11 tackled Lea End and 19, including six young people, tidied the lower end of Hopwood.

Parish councillor Adrian Smith, who is also Chairman of Hopwood Residents Association, thanked Mr Parsons and the district council and said everyone involved deserved a big pat on the back.

"A 'spring clean' is a brilliant way of galvanising community spirit which I must say is already fairly good in Hopwood.

"Afterwards, it was a delight to drive round and Hopwood looked far better for it, how long it lasts is up to those thoughtless litter louts."

He urged residents, now the clean had been carried out, to keep the area clean and tidy.

A further event is being planned for the autumn and anyone in Hopwood can be involved.
