POLICE are hunting two men who attempted to carry out an armed robbery on Cofton Post Office this morning (Tuesday).
One appeared to have a handgun and the other a meat cleaver during the incident, which took place at 11am at the branch on Parsonage Drive, Rednal.
Both men had their faces covered with balaclavas as they burst in and threatened the woman who was behind the counter.
They then tried to smash the counter screen but were forced to flee empty handed towards Cofton Park.
No shots were fired and, luckily, no one was injured.
West Mercia Police sent out its helicopter and dog handlers to search the area and the area was cordoned off so a forensic examination could take place at the scene.
One of the robbers was white and both were wearing black or dark jackets with the hoods up, black jogging trousers with stripes down the legs and black trainers.
One was carrying a black plastic bag with a drawstring.
Door-to-door enquiries are taking place and patrols will be carried out by the Safer Neighbourhood Team to reassure residents.
Det Insp Callie Bradley said: “This was a serious incident despite the fact that the robbers didn’t manage to steal anything.
"The woman who was confronted by them is obviously shaken up although fortunately she was not hurt.
“It’s vital that anyone who saw these men in that area before the offence or noticed them making off afterwards gets in touch with us."
Witnesses or anyone with any information should call detectives at Kidderminster Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
