A BROMSGROVE firm has proved itself to be among Britain's best businesses after receiving a prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise.
It recognises the outstanding innovation Viezu Technologies has demonstrated by creating fuel-saving and emissions-cutting engine management software.
BlueOptimize, created in 2011 and developed in-house at the company's technical centre in the town, has saved more than 200,000 tons of carbon emissions since it was launched in 2011.
It can be used by both private motorists and fleet operators, cutting fuel use by 15 per cent and tailpipe emissions by 20 per cent.
Viezu Technologies CEO Paul Busby said the accolade was a huge endorsement of what the team had achieved.
"Tuning had always been all about going faster before.
"However people are now increasingly conscious of high fuel prices and the effect of emissions, and we developed BlueOptimize to answer the needs of these customers.
"It accounts for 95 per cent of our installations and has become established as the only choice for fleet and private users looking to reduce the financial and environmental impact of their motoring.”
BlueOptimize has led to commercial success for Viezu with half of its sales coming from outside Europe.
Viezu, which employs 14 people, oversees a global network of 500 dealers in 45 countries.
In just five years, it has become Europe’s largest provider of tuning software and its products have been installed on more than 120,000 vehicles worldwide, saving about 200,000 tons of carbon emissions.
Among the corporate giants using Viezu's efficiency software have been BT which has had it installed on its entire fleet of 24,000 light commercial vehicles. Because of it, BT is now saving £4million a year in diesel costs and has seen its carbon footprint hugely reduced - the equivalent to taking 5,000 London cabs off the road.
“The Queen’s Award has recognised BlueOptimize as a genuine innovation, which offers what we believe is a unique approach to efficient vehicle tuning that’s very different from the traditional image of performance-oriented remaps."
He added he was confident the commendation would lead to even more success for BlueOptimize and help
Viezu play a positive part in the Midlands’ motor industry and contributing to wider growth in the UK economy.
Prime Minister David Cameron said: “One of Britain’s strengths is its enterprise and I think it is important we celebrate it."
He congratulated Viezu and the other 161 UK companies which have won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
“In recognising their outstanding and innovative achievements, and their contribution to our economy, I hope other businesses and entrepreneurs will be inspired to follow their lead,” he said.
Business Secretary Vince Cable, added: “Companies that are growing, innovating and championing UK business overseas deserve the recognition that these awards bestow."
